Is the process of becoming an Ifa initiate too expensive for the average aspirant?

If we truly want to expand the number of worshipers, devotees and prospective priests, must we not remove emphasis from **money** and begin to encourage **free** initiation process?

I have many friends in the United States who have to give an arm and a leg just to be part of their ancestral heritage. They have to pay this money and that money, and feel exhausted and defeated.

Are we discouraging people with this monetizing of Ifa divination?

Should devotee not give according to their ability, rather than according to the prescriptions and desires of Ifa priests?

The 16 Rules of Ifa ! (Must see)

Ifa University: What’s the importance of culture’&‘tradition’, to a modern man ?

0

Do you know that one Akinfenwa Sunday Muyiwa, a member of group Ifa University, asks: “Of what use is this so called ‘culture’ and ‘tradition’, to a modern man, who lives and dreams technology? Can the believe in them bring any technological innovation and orientation, which can make us surpass the white people, who have done away with theirs?”

Could some people please address his question, PLEASE?

1st Answer
Adébóyè Adégbénró: Before you could have full understanding of anything, you have to be inside of it, not trying to wrap your head around it. There and then would you have full understanding- and it does not stop there. Just like inventions and new innovations in science and what have you, ‘culture’ and ‘tradition’ are not stagnant but have progressions that are still connected to the original source. The mistakes our folks make is eliminating the roots to forge a new move, new light or a new beginning. We all know the result of the river that forgot its roots. My ten cents.

2nd Answer

Shimone Canty: If he knew where the computer came from, he wouldn’t say such things. I will help him a lil… the code of the computer, which you see as color, shapes, sizes, etc on your computer screen is really just ones and zeros. This advanced system came from the Holy Odu printing of unlocking the universe. Yes, when we mark Odu today we use ones and zeros, just as our ancestors did. So, where would the world be today without computers? Where would the world be today without Ifa? We have always surpassed the so called white people, you just need to look from a different angle, the God angle.

3rd Answer (The Best Answer)
Sue Kucklick Arencibia: Ifá is a binary system. The first computers known to mankind are the divination systems. But instead of transmitting stale data, they connect us to the world of spirit and immensities of understanding.

4th Answer:

Fajemirokun Chris: Why is it that you never see any traditionalist in any key post? It is simply because we have gone astray. We need to make ammendments. Ki a ma tan ara wa je, ni didarulko awon Irunmolw ni gbogbo igba. We are all hipocrites!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

5th Answer
Mr. Akinfenwa Sunday Muyiwa talked from the viewpoint of those badly affected and brainwashed by hundred years of the colonialists deliberate system of mental slavery. Emancipated people like Prof. Moyo Okediji now easily consult Ifa on the laptop! Emancipate yourself, fully get at breast with our asa ati orisa, then you’ll have an edge.

6th Asnwer: 2nd Best Answer

Balogun Adesina to Akinfenwa Sunday Muyiwa
You seem to lack the knowledge of how things work. First of all Cultural religion or traditional religion is a civilization so as all kinds of religion is. It’s a backlink to identify with a source of creation in other words your ancestors.

What you don’t get is, there has been physiological attack of this precious identity since the fall of Oyo Empire. Even before then, there were religious viruses attack mainly from the west and east (other religions and mostly Christianity and Islam) against the traditional religion or our way of life.

This has always been my argument. When you subjugate an enclave by taking away their voices(Via all sorts of religious propaganda against their traditional invisible religions), you automatically kill their future and what else could come of a subjugated environment ? If anything good, won’t you attack it the same way you did even to their civilization ?

Let me give you a good example here.. Even in the example bellow.. The man found CTE, despite the fact that he identified with the Christians (non believer of Ifa) he was still attacked by the NLF oligarchs. This is the typical example of the attack against the traditional religion of Ifa and any invention or what so ever that comes out of it.

Can you now imagine how the picture would look like if the CTE man in the above video was a believer of Traditional religion ?

Conclusion is.. Virtually everything in life is like a war zone. Even human beings are in war with millions of viruses. So to defend our civilization so future people like the CTE guy above can feel proud of identifying with his traditional religion/Ifa destiny. We have got to continue fighting the information war against our traditional religion or identity.

“Once the colonizer succeeds in the quest to conquer the mind of the colon, the colonizer does not need to do anything further: the colon will surrender the most valuable assets of own volition, including land and all material resources–but most importantly, the cultural heritage indigenous to the colon.”

“Once colonized, the injury of the colon is irreversible, but it can be managed. The injury is passed down the genetic code and inherited down the generation. The children of colonized people are not free. They are semi-colons”.

What is Ifá’s position on GAY marriage?

$
0
0

My RESPONSE to the very much insistently asked questions from friends and associates, within and mostly outside Indigenous Faith of Africans believers ( IFA ), on Ifá’s position about the global ranting GAY marriage that has arouse much confrontations between many world leading figures in recent time.

I would have preferred to permanently maintain a low profile and perfect silence on this issue as I have chosen to, from the inception of this incessant enquiries from these people due to several reasons, many of which are personal but to mention few;

One, trying to avoid a situation of being lured to make a statement which will deliberately be misinterpreted in order to create confusion and therefore be held accountable for at the long run, and after a while, which will eventually be resolved on the basis of misconception of context.

Secondly, In that regards, I think, to diligently observe 100% circumspection and prudence, in a way of delayed response, when making an official statement to sensitive issues like this , is highly expected of a person who is vastly oriented and understands what revolves around much globally debated issues of this magnitude.

Thirdly, all facts and figures must be perfectly outlined and diligently proof read couple of times over before it’s release for public accessibility as any typographic error of words or line(s) of sentence could change the whole context of the message therefore, inadvertently, passing the wrong information in the image of the value system (Ifá) which the message is derived from.

But as the pressure to make a statement seems constantly obstinate and almost unavoidable, I picked my ÒPÈLÈ and asked Ifá….. Behold !!!! Ifá’s response was GO AHEAD !!!

So on this note, contrary to my wish but on authorization from Ifá, I present my opinion on Ifá’s stance as regards the global current trending marriage of same s3x/gender.

Topic : IFA’s POSITION ON THE CURRENT TRENDING SAME S3X MARRIAGE.

Apart from the fact that It is, base on conventional morality, considered ungodly, this act is an irritating attribute of mental disorder. Yoruba religious value system is against and unreservedly condemned being homos3xual/Lesbian.

Ifá, the voice of Olódùmarè which contains the solutions to all riddles of life, conveyed to this mundane by Òrúnmìlà, through the Yoruba race to enlighten human beings on the stance of Olódùmarè on all physical, moral and spiritual aspects of life, through which the Yoruba cultural, traditional and religious value system is formed, does not in any way, sanction same s3x marriage.

There is nowhere in the 256 Odù Ifá that relationship with the same s3x is ever mentioned or emphasized.

In discrepancy to this stance, some Ifá scholars, religious researchers and Ifá/Òrìsà organizations, out of lack prudence for the reputation of Ifá in the world view, carelessly sanctions homos3xual/Lesbian relationships with the submission that “Ifa is not concerned about the biological s3x of partners in a marriage, all that matters is the mutual understanding and faithfulness of each partner involved in the marriage or relationships”. Which of these positions is correct? Is Ifá actually in support of same-s3x marriage/relationships or not? NO !!! This ascertain is out rightly baseless and lacks cohesion in the Ifá corpus.

A diligent observation/study of Ifa corpus (256 Odùs) shows that no record of same s3x marriages ever existed among the Yoruba. However, since the concept of scriptural interpretation is versatile and dependent on the interpreter’s level of understating and competency in Ifá , same s3x marriages is one of many other human practices which were alien to Òrúnmìlà’s doctrine and Indigenous Faith of Africans (IFÁ) believe system that have come to feature in the recent practice of Yoruba religion, and Ifa practice globally. However, same s3x marriage is mostly/mainly practiced among few Ifá practitioners in the diaspora.

This response is base on the analysis of two major key words that constitute the existence of the cause of the topic of discussion which which are : S3X/COPULATION and WOMEN.

S3X/ COPULATION
I want us to collectively look at what Ifá had said in the Odù Ìrosùn-Òwónrín/Ìrosùn Elérín which sanctions Olódùmarè’s stance on the copulation of human beings with submission that states how s3x is best enjoyed in terms of positions and combination of gender that should practice it.

On this Ifá says :

Isu dùn-ún j’epo
Ìkèté dùn-ún j’èfó
Obìnrin dùn-ún básùn ju okùnrin lo
Tó bá dúró, mo lá yùngbá
Bó bá bèrè, mo lá yùngbá
Bó bá sùn kakàá
Mo lá yùngbá pàápàá
Díá fún Àwèlé on’ídìí òrenkéle
Tí yó ma f’òbò d’íjà sí’lè láì s’okó
Yíò fó koto
Yíò fó kèngbè
Òbò Àwèlé a fó koto

Translation :

Yam is a delicious supplement with Palm oil
Ìkèté ( the thick settled palm oil) is a delicious supplement with vegetable
Woman is more pleasurable in copulating than man
If it’s in standing position, it’s always sweet
If she bends over ( back shot) it’s mind blowing experience
If she lies down facing up ( missionary style)
It’s more pleasurable and fantastic
These were Ifá’s declarations to Àwèlé, the lady with the big s3xy buttocks
Who will cause pandemonium and controversy with her Genital organ
Behold!! It will break Koto ( calabash)
It will break Kèngbè ( calabash with a wide base but long narrowed neck. Usually for carrying water)
Àwèlé’s Genital organ will break Kèngbè

Without much emphasis on further analysis of this stanza, I believe, if carefully read and well understood, the message Òrúnmìlà is passing to us here is not far fetch at all.

This stanza outrightly nullifies the aforementioned sanction stating that Ifá is less concern with the biological s3x of individuals involving in relationships as it is just mere fabrications which has no referential rendition in Ifá.

IFA’S STANCE ON THE ROLE OF WOMEN AS INSTRUMENTAL TO CONTINUE EXISTENCE OF THE PLANET EARTH.

The place of women in Yoruba religion in general and the practice of Ifa in particular are significant. With the cross-continental exposure of Ifa practice through the Internet, women’s position and roles has become even more pronounced. Countless stanzas of various Odus presents an ambivalent portrait of women by providing narratives on negative and positive roles of women as wives, mothers and daughters. Women serve as custodians of traditions in Yoruba religion as well as serving as priestesses of Ifa (ìyánífá) or wife of Babalawo (Apètèbí). In fact, the Yoruba worldview’s preference for gender balance compels that due recognition be given to women and this is exemplified in women’s roles in Ifa practice.

Let’s have a retrospective overview of Òrúnmìlà on the significance of women and their inevitable role in the continuous existence of Earth from the holy Odù Èjì-Ogbè which states;

Ifá ló d’ègbèjí awo ilé kórò ló dé

Òrúnmìlà responded, they will give birth to Amósùn and also Amórè
You all are ignorant of the fact that one’s child is an assurance of upholding ones legacy therefore guarantee eternal existence.

Moral : if these stanza is carefully read through, we will see that the message is obviously detailed out with clear understanding of Ifá’s emphasis on marriage and child bearing. Olodumare holds, on a very high esteem, the union of a man and woman, with mutual understanding and emotional feelings for each other, coming together as one, to copulate in any form, but in a moral justifiable manner, to reproduce and contribute to the chains of continuous existence of the universe which is the main concern of Olódùmarè.

As in the stanza, we can see how Òrúnmìlà himself condemned all other merchandise of his students except from that which involves the two s3xy breasted beautiful damsels on the basis of the fact that it is through them we can breed younger generations.

THE MOTIVES OF OLÓDÙMARÈ FOR CREATING THE EARTH

A retrospective study of the aesthetically appealing architectural structure of creation of the Earth from sections to sections, from the geographical overview to the creatures ( all the living and existing transitory creatures ) that constitutes the Earth, we will realise that the motive of Olódùmarè is clearly spelled out if well understood. According to the fourth stage of the traditional conventional creation story written by Oluwo Solagbade Popoola, my father, Olódùmarè, in his fondly act of delegation of authority among the Irúnmolès, assigned Òbàtálá to the role of creating the earth. Firstly, Significant proportional landscape

Many people request during iwure (prayers )and ebo (sacrifice ) is not usually granted, not because they don’t know the right ingredients or words to recite. But because their behavior and way of life is filthy to orisha and Olodumare (God ). Many babalawo think once they know all the necessary ingredients and word to use during iwure and ebo that their orisha will bring their request to Olodumare, I must be sincere with you that is erroneous in IFA spirituality.

If you are a babalawo that have indiscriminate sexual intercourse with other people’s wife or you alway take advantage of women that patronize you for sexual relationship you are just a babalawo by name not by act, because all your ebo and prayers and sacrifice is likely not to be granted even if you are very verse babalawo in terms of spiritual knowledge and power. As a babalawo or iyanifa whether santeria or what ever or any orisha devotee you should always know that adultery adultery is one of most heinous thing that can break your connection to orisha IFA and Olodumare God.

Olodumare has made it clear that Orisha devotee especially babalawo and any practicing diviner in yoruba spirituality should not betray the confidence of people they worked for either by having secret sexual affairs with their wife or husband or ward or even with clients their self to take advantage of their situation or misinterpreted IFA message for them to take advantage of them. For example using IFA reading to deceive a client to marry babalawo or orisha devotee. All these are abomination to IFA and Olodumare. Look if your iwure prayer and ebo sacrifice is not granted check yourself because orisha, ifa and Olodumare is always there to answer prayers any day any time provided the person soliciting is pure in mind and body adultery is one of the things to run away from if you are a babalawo that commit adultery II can belt it you are not a babalawo and people who patronize such diviner are wasting their time.

Hear what ifa said on adultery from odu ifa owonrin ose called owonrin wese .in that ifa verse ifa reveal to us how a a renowned powerful ifa priest, a great diviner and herbalist called Elisinje in the ancient time lost all his power of efficacious prayers to Olodumare because he committed adultery with olokun the wife of oduduwa who was his clients. Because Elisinje was aa family priest and herbalist to Oduduwa. He midwife the wives during birth. But olokun was aa very beautiful woman. ELesinje secretly begin to have love affair with the olokun who was wife of Oduduwa. Olodumare take away all the spiritual and herbal power of ELesinje for this offense or sin. When the secret reveal to oduduwa, he beheaded ELesinje in the puplic. Elisinje offer all the efficacious prayers he always offer but he failed to connect to orisha, ifa and Olodumare. They refuse to listen because the adulterous character of Priest ELesinje has blocked the road his prayer can take to get to Olodumare .see what the odu owonrin ose say your self.

My brother and sister in ifa and orisha you can see what happens to priest ELesinje. Olodumare refuse to answer his prayer when oduduwa want to behead him for his offence of adultery. It is the adultery that ELesinje committed with olokun the wife of Oduduwa that make ELesinje lose all his efficacious power of prayer and sacrifice. Ifa religious worshippers under the aegis of Ancient Religion Societies of African Descendants International Council have said they are ready to assist Nigeria to combat the Boko Haram insurgents ravaging some states in the North-East.

The Chairman, Executive Working Committee of ARSADIC, Dr. Olalekan Ifagbenuola, said this on Friday at a press conference held at Ile Oduduwa, Ile Ife, to seek government recognition for the group.

Ifagbenuola stated that corruption among public office holders was the reason for the increasing rate of crimes in the country, saying this would stop if public office holders were made to take the oath of office in traditional religious ways.

He said, “If proper oath of allegiance is taken genuinely, our leaders would not misbehave when they get to power. If the oath is taken in a traditional religious way, they will not misbehave. There must be fear of God in anything we do.

“Corrupt leaders in offices promote crimes and if our leaders are honest, the level of crime in the country will greatly reduce. We are ready to assist to tackle insurgency, if we are invited by the government.”

He said that the problems confronting the nation should be tackle with seriousness because there could be no meaningful development in an atmosphere devoid of peace.

According to him, the umbrella body of the traditional religion worshippers was formerly known as Ancient Religion Societies of African Descendants Association and was registered under companies ordinance in 1957.

He, however, stated that there had been a proliferation of traditional religion associations in Nigeria and all over the world but said the traditional worshippers had resolved to one formidable association.

Ifagbenuola described religion as an important instrument for development in any nation, saying successful nations, including China and South Africa, had given recognition to all notable religions.

“We call on the Federal Government of Nigeria in this era of change to follow suit and give due recognition to the ancient religions. We must quickly state that Nigeria is a complex nation of diverse group of people and culture; therefore, there would be more than one ancient religion in existence,” he added.

Interesting !! How To Become A Qualified Babaalawo (Ifa chief Preist) Or Iyanifa (Ifa Preistes)

By Obanifa
Today I prefer to talk on how to become a qualified babalawo(ifapreist).many people who claim to be preist will after reading this article will know wether they are qualified babalawo (father of mysteries and secret or they are just babalariwo (mere noise maker).the first erroneous wildly held view to be corrected is the view that many people have that once they are initiated during their itefa in igbodu that they are already a qualified babalawo (ifa preist )or iyanifa (ifa priestess ),this view is wrong. To be initiated simply mean know your odu that create you, it mean to know your destiny.

Initiation is very important but it is just a starting point of becoming a qualified babalawo (ifa preist )or iyanifa (ifa priestess ). Some people are initiated yet they are not qualified babalawo (ifa preist )or iyanifa (ifa priestess ). For example :Agbamate (Agbamate are either male or female who is initiated and he or she received ikin sacred ifa nuts during his or her initiation in igbodu, but he or she doesn’t have necessary require knowledge of ifa training, some time they may be able to sacrifice to their ikin when it comes the full knowledge of ifa reading and ebo sacrifice the still need to consult a qualified babalawo or iyanifa. This explanation above also applied to people called Agbamaku.

I will say Agbamaku and Agbamate are synonymous. We also have people called Iyalase or eyelase (these set of people are woman who are usually devotees of ifa. They perform ceremonial function during odun ifa (ifa festival )and some function during ose ifa (day dedicated to ifa during the week ),these set of woman called iyalase also lack the adequate knowledge of ifa scripture and real ifa spirituality. All the people explain and mentioned are not qualified ifa preist (babalawo) or iyanifa (ifa priestess ).but it amaze me today these set of people parade theirselve as babalawo and iyanifa at home and abroad they mislead people because they theirselve lack adequate knowledge of ifa.

So it is wrong for any body to claim have been initiated in so so years ago, therefore I am a qualified babalawo or iyanifa. There are stages of trainings that a person must pass through before he can become a qualified babalawo (ifa preist) or iyanifa (ifa priestess ). failure to pass through all this stage, no matter your years of initiation you are still ogberi (a novice or green horn ) when it come to ifa.

That leads us to the question who is a babalawo? . The answer is simple. The words babalawo comes from two yoruba words :baba and awo. Baba mean a father or an elderly person, while awo mean a mysteries or secrets . so the words babalawo simply mean a father of mysteries or secrets. Same apply to iyanifa is just that mode of initiating women is slightly different from men. Is just that during initiation iyanifa is forbidden to see odu. Because odu herself according to my knowledge is wife of orunmila in ancient time. Now how can one become qualified babalawo (ifa preist )or or iyanifa (ifa priestess ).

The first thing is that any body wether male or female who want to become a babalawo or iyanifa must ready to to humbly submit their self to Olodumare (God )and Orunmila and Oluwo who will train the would -be babalawo or iyanifa. The person must have it that learning ifa is life times pursuit, in ifa learning never end nobody knows it all,all this is usually for those who take ifa preist hood as a profession. Like me I still learn people who practice ifa before me learn till they died despite the fact that they are verse .

The Oluwo will ask the following questions from aspiring babalawo or iyanifa.these are the questions. Se o fe ko ifa nitori eran? to ba je be wa ri eran lopolopo ( did you want to learn ifa because of meat?if that’s is the reason you will gain a lot of meat ),Se o fe ko ifa nitori owo? to ba je be wari owo ( did you want to learn ifa because of money? If that is your reasons you will gain a lot of money ),Se o fe ko ifa nitori ko le laya lopolopo? To ba je be wa ni Aya lopolopo (did you want to learn ifa so that you can marry many wives? If That is your reasons you will have many wives. )

lastly Oluwo will ask this question from the aspiring babalawo or iyanifa :se o fe ko ifa nitori otito? to ba je be,owo eran Ola ohun rere gbogbo ayika iwa yio o je tire. (Do you want to learn ifa because you are looking for or seeking the truth? It that is your reason, money, wives sounds health, long life and all the goodness of life shall be yours ).

There are various stage in which the aspiring babalawo or iyanifa will pass through during his or her training. According to my knowledge that as a practicing babalawo that I gained from people who leave before me. The first stage is ifoju omo awo mon ifa ( introducing the aspiring babalawo or iyanifa to ifa).this is usually done by instructing the aspiring babalawo or iyanifa to buy abodiye tabi obidiye ( a hen) otin (a bottle of schnapps or gin ) obi abata olojumerin ( kolanut with four lobes ). This would be use to do iwure (prayers ) to the ikin ifa of the Oluwo who will train the apprentice or the aspiring babalawo or iyanifa so that ifa can be with both of them in the course of the training and that their relationship should be fruitful and not fraught with controversy. This first stage is usually done on ose ifa day.

The second stage is ohunje oju opele(that’s eating spiritual food on divination chain ). The Oluwo Will at this stage instruct the aspiring babalawo or iyanifa to buy some items, I will not mention them . this item will be use with some ifa leaves wish I will not mention as well. This will be use to prepare a spiritual food call ohunje oju opele (food on divination chain )there is a certain postion wich the apprentice or the aspiring babalawo or iyanifa will position his or her hand and certain region of the world to face with his or her hand at the back and he or she will use his or her mouth to pick the divine food on the divination chain. The divination chain use at this preliminary stage of training is usually from pankara idi esu (that’s a calabash pick from esu shrine ).this improvised divination chain made from pankara idi esu (calabash pick from esu shrine ) will be use by the aspiring babalawo or iyanifa to start his or her training.

The next stage of training is isipele or sisi opele (the process or act of opening divination chain) the sisxten major odu ifa will be opens for the prospective babalawo or iyanifa. It can be open to him or her in four four or eight eight depending on his or her assimilating capacity. There respective name will be given as well. This major oju odu is called ojodu. It gave birth to the remaining 240 odu

Called Amulu. The next stage is that the aspiring babalawo or iyanifa to learn and identify Amulu. And how to handle, postion and manipulate the divination chain. The aspiring babalawo or iyanifa will practice this well under his or her Oluwo.

The next stage is ibo gbigba (the act of interpretation of ifa divination messages as either yes or know, good or bad ). The aspiring babalawo in this process will know what proposition is assigned to owo otun (right hand )and owo osi (left hand of the divination chain )he or she will learn about odu to ja ibo gba (that’s is the odu that has special meaning on it own ).the ibo is characterized by either ire (goodness ), or ki ifa kun tabi ki ifa gbin tabi ayewo, ifa ki fo ibi (bad or negative).he or she will also learn the difference between Making reading for male and female at this stage during ibo gbigba. At this stage the aspiring babalawo or iyanifa will learn on how to ask for ebo and adimu
The aspiring priest will learn about ohunte Ile ( that is how to imprint marks of odu ifa on divination tray (opon ifa ).

The next stage is okara ebo hiha (that’s is how to perform or carry out sacrifice )

The next stage is how to to learn at least two verses from each odu ifa starting from ejiogbe to Last odu. The aspiring babalawo usually called omo awo will and commit this verses to memory. The total is 256 odu in general.
Next stage is learning of herbal cure and remedies and some akose ifa. It should be remembered that this is a life time pursuit. How to use akose ipese and ayajo ifa to solve some myriads of problems. Initiation to ifa can be done before training and can be done after training it depends on finicial strength of aspiring babalawo and iyanifa. This procedure are sacred and unchanged. if you are interested in training and initiation to ifa you can contact babalawo obanifa at the contact address that will be given below
